Mindfulness Practice Weekend 13-14 August with Chimé. Two sessions 9:30am and 3:30pm both days. People can stay on longer if they wish to keep practicing. Bookings and enrollments are preferred, but informal attendance is welcome. Classical Mindfulness is a non-sectarian, universal tool for human welfare. The method is understandable and useful. It combines both calm and insight. Meditation is well supported by mindfulness practice.

Origins Centre 28th Birthday 20-21 August A special time for friends to gather, share food, plant some native foods, and tour the developing OC parkland. Please come and enjoy.

Bush Parkland – stage two is well and truly underway with invasive weed control, planting, paths and habitat. We should be able to access funding next year but still require some bridging finance for the rest of 2011.

Pagoda Birthday

Happy 9th Birthday, Pagoda!
The celebrations began with a shared lunch, followed by a beautiful afternoon in the Rotunda, with a large group reading of the Theravada Puja. In the late afternoon sunshine we a blessed the Pagoda with water, rose petals and wishes for world peace

Update 16/9/10

New Committee Member:  Welcome to Coral Schubert to the Committee of Management as Site Manager.  Thanks to Coral for accepting this position overseeing the facilities and general welfare of guests and staff.

Notice:  Peter will move into the general managers cottage and do some refurbishments.  He will oversee maintenance and attend to enrollments for now.  Peter is also available for personal practice support.

Volunteer General Manager position –  This volunteer position is an excellent opportunity for a self reliant person who likes working with people.  There is real room for innovation and development.  Eleven days/month are devoted to Traditional Mindfulness and there is ample time for initiatives and personal work, such as study or artwork.  If you are interested in this position please contact Chim at the centre.

Fire Maintenance – We are on track.  It takes appox. $3-4,000/year in labour and machine costs to maintain fire readiness across our property.  It is serious and quite arduous but we have good labour and supervision, and advice from the fire department.  If anyone wants to support this work financially that would be great, the costs have grown as the grasses have invaded.  Anne will be canvassing for support in the near future.

Water – The dams and tanks in the sth west are really feeling the shortage of rain this winter.  Please continue to be water conscious as the centre runs on tanks.

Family Practice – Anne continues this important teaching, which supports the integration of mindfulness and family life. Wednesday’s at 11:15am in the rotunda – bring the babes and little ones.

Origins Centre Update – 1 September, 2010

Treasurers Report.  Audit – to approve financial statements for financial year 2009/10, all now signed and will be returned to our auditor, Richard Dalgleish.

Transfer of Funds – a grant of $3,700 has been remitted to Origins from the Australian Government for outreach transport.  The fund is being administered through Coorain and the total grant will be transferred to Coorain Account.

Committee Member Changes: On 31 August, 2010, Sue Jowett finished her work as Office and General Manager.

Motion: To extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sue and accept her resignation as a committee member.

NB: Sue’s committee position will be filled when we have new staff.  Chim will oversee the office for the next while.

Balingup Medieval Carnivale Thanks to the inspired works of Romy, Dolma, Dylan, Marissa, Shavi, Deb and others, this years stall raised $2,100 for Coorain.  Origins stalls are happy and hardworking with up to four shoulder and neck rubs happening at once. Brilliant!

INDIA – There is a trip brewing for mid February 2011.  We will be away 4 – 6 weeks but you are welcome to join in for any part. This is to renew our connections with friends from the traditional sangha of Tibet in Sikkim – particularly the nuns, HH Karmapa and the Drikung Rinpoche in Dehradun.  Details and flights announced soon.  If you are interested please register with Coorain 9764 1275, Anne or Dolma.

Origins Centre Committee Meeting 18 August 2010, 1:30 pm at Origins Centre, Balingup.

Treasury: The committee resolves to ratify expenditure incurred on the Lotterywest Pathways and Campsites Grant totaling $11,750 as listed on the spread sheet presented by the Treasurer and confirms that all outlays listed for labour were in compensation for labour exerted on the project.

The Treasury confirms that $950 have been deposited in Coorain Account to compensate for payments made to sundry debtors.

Balingup Medieval Carnival   28 – 29 August Coorain is holding a stall at the Carnival – we need your arts and crafts and knitted socks!  Romy will be in Perth from 19 – 25 August, so if you have something to contribute give her a call on 0410 679 447 to arrange a time and place to pick them up.   Bake a cake/biscuits/slices for the weekend if you are down for the Carnival (individually wrapped slices are helpful), and of course we need helping hands with the shoulder rubs.  Stall assistants are required to be in some sort of medieval costume (be it a curtain or a crown), also  Romy can help outfit you for the day.  Be aware that there is a small entry fee.  See you all down here! The Centre is now booked out.

WE NEED NEW MANAGERS FOR ORIGINS CENTRE   Origins Centre is looking for a new Office Manager and a new Site Manager.  Both positions have private separate accommodation, with a small honorarium of $65 per week.   The work is for 5 days a week part time.  Call the office for details on the duties for each position.

We also have an ongoing need for Temporary Staff at Origins Centre, to work 2 hours a day, 5 days a week, in return for accommodation.  Please keep circulating this opportunity, as Origins Centre can only remain open according to staffing levels.

Burning off – Chrissie Sharp is thankfully liaising with the progress Assoc. of Balingup re our property’s fuel load and fire risk.  We will try to burn and continue contacting the fire department to please help us.  Conquering the fire risk is really difficult with the changing rain patterns.We are contacting Clinton Bailey to try again for a time to burn off up the hill behind OC.

SPECIAL Wednesday LUNCH to bid adieu to Sue and Matthew was just delicious, not only with sweets divine, we actually fitted in a yummy main meal as well…..Matt leaves on Friday and Sue leaves on 30 August.

Balingup Medieval Fair 28, 29 August – we need all the shoulder rubbing peeps and enthusiasts to gather together for our Coorain fundraising stall! Also craft support and produce (cakes! biscuits, etc.) needed. NOTICE: Volunteer Sustainability.  If we have only one resident site manager at OC we can only take 3 guests.  Extra residential volunteers allow more guests.  We require 2 volunteers along with an on-site manager to allow full booking of the centre.

Classical Mindfulness Learning Week 14-19 August with Coorain practitioners.

Bookings and enrollments are preferred, but informal attendance is welcome. If you are staying at the Centre, please don’t forget to book your accommodation at 97641109. Classical Mindfulness is a non-sectarian, universal tool for human welfare. The method is understandable and useful. It combines both calm and insight. Meditation is well supported by mindfulness practice. The teachers are provided by Coorain.

This is be followed by the enrolled retreat 20-24 August with Chimé

Enrolled retreat: This year the monthly Traditional Mindfulness Training Week will be immediately followed by a five day enrolled quiet retreat, commencing on the Friday. This is a chance to continue Mindfulness practice or to do a short retreat. Children are welcome during enrolled retreat; mostly for adults though. Retreatants should be self-reliant in practice and familiar with Traditional Mindfulness. There is a group session each day 4 – 5pm. Enrollment is essential. Locals can also come and participate.   Contact Coorain for more details 97641275 and the Centre for bookings.

Balingup Medieval Fair 28, 29 August – we need all the shoulder rubbing peeps and enthusiasts to gather together for our Coorain fundraising stall! Also craft support and produce (cakes! biscuits, etc.) needed. Stall helpers are required to dress up in some sort of medieval costume. Contact Romy 9764 1275 at Coorain. The centre is also open for accommodation to those who are coming to help support our stall.

Announcement: We have just been awarded a volunteer grant of $3,700.  Many thanks to Romy and Anne.  This grant is for outreach and training. Cheers, every bit makes a huge difference.

Temporary Volunteer Staff:   Room and facilities are provided in exchange for general domestic duties.  Two hours per day, Wednesday to Sunday. One month minimum. Access to Mindfulness classes, Coorain and other events.  Anyone interested please contact the Centre or Anne at 97641275.

12:30pm Share lunch – a great chance to catch up with what’s happening at OC
