Pagoda Birthday

Happy 9th Birthday, Pagoda!
The celebrations began with a shared lunch, followed by a beautiful afternoon in the Rotunda, with a large group reading of the Theravada Puja. In the late afternoon sunshine we a blessed the Pagoda with water, rose petals and wishes for world peace

Water Dance

These photos were shared by Brigit Cosgrove and Family. Anthony Regan dancing for water and the Yarragadee Aquifer at the Mullalyup Art Gallery, and Winjana Greybrook blessing a Mandala at Origins Centre made with the same intentions in mind.

Wonderful to remember these moments, if you have any more information regarding these photos, or want to add your own, please get in touch!

Bookings and enrollments are preferred, but informal attendance is welcome.  If you are staying at the Centre, please don’t forget to book your accommodation at 97641109.  Classical Mindfulness is a non-sectarian, universal tool for human welfare.  The method is understandable and useful. It combines both calm and insight. Meditation is well supported by mindfulness practice.  The teachers are provided by Coorain.

Enrolled retreat 13 – 17 November with Chimé   This is a chance to continue Mindfulness practice or to do a short retreat. Children are welcome during enrolled retreat; mostly for adults though. Retreatants should be self-reliant in practice and familiar with Traditional Mindfulness.   Enrollment is essential. Locals can also come and participate.   Contact Coorain for more details 97641275 and the Centre for bookings.

Holidays and Christmas:  This year the centre will be closed from December 22 to January 5. Otherwise we are open through December & January for general use, there will be no retreats or workshops.

Volunteering at Origins:  You are needed and welcome – further info and inquiries phone OC  9764 1109 if you are interested in volunteering to help out at OC for a minimum of one month.

Casual Grounds Worker needed on Wednesdays – 3 hours 9am to midday at $20/hour.

Environment Project – Our rural bush parkland can be really well supported by TAFE and other community agencies.  Work and study up to 12 hours/week. Work on bush regeneration on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. More info contact Chim 9764 1275.
Fire Maintenance & Environmental considerations – we are working with the Fire Dept, Council and other agencies for a year.  We need to raise $5,000.  We are currently developing a hands-on approach to the land where introduced grasses and blackberry cover 70 percent of the property.  If you are interested or can offer support in some way please contact Chime at Coorain 9764 1275.  Thank you to all who have already gifted financial support for this project.

Cultural Retreats – we encourage those who have cultural projects (eg film, writing, painting…) to negotiate longer stays at OC. This is a great use of the centre and is good for us all.  Contact Peter at the centre, or Coorain (9764 1275)

NEW:    The last Friday morning of each month until the following Tuesday evening will be roster time off for staff. Which means this November the centre will be closed from Friday 26 Nov until Tuesday 30 Nov.
Centre also closed from Monday evening until Wednesday morning each week (unless there is a retreat on).

Special Guest: Thanks to Robyne Garnham for coming to visit us from Victoria for a week to have a look at how we run!

Pam – our temp staff has just enrolled in a TAFE course/work-for-the-dole training model we are developing.  Cheers Pam, well done!

Mother Tara – wonderful to have you here. Thank you for your kind support – best of luck with your project in Ferguson Valley.

Snakes – yes, there are snakes.  We now have a local, Lincoln, who catches and relocates snakes which is comforting to know!

Water – Thank you to the Listers! Who kindly allow us to pump water from their dam for as long as the water is available. It’s very dry here already, we are careful and have very low water usage.
